2023 Summer Season

REMODELED BUILDING, REMARKABLE SEASON

TERRE HAUTE, IN - Crossroads Repertory Theatre is proud to announce its 57th season! With four offerings, including a musical, a comic farce, a play for young audiences, and a cabaret, the season is sure to have something for everyone.

The musical of the season is the Broadway version of Cinderella. This contemporary take on the classic tale features Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II's most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It's Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” alongside an up-to-date, hilarious and romantic libretto by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane.

Next, Michael Frayn's award-winning Noises Off takes a fond look at the follies of theatre folk, whose susceptibility to out-of-control egos, memory loss, and passionate affairs turn every performance into a high-risk adventure. This play-within-a-play captures a touring theatre troupe’s production in three stages: dress rehearsal, the opening performance, and a performance towards the end of a debilitating run. Filled with frenetic and unstable actors, a volatile director, and an overworked and overly emotional stage crew, and brimming with slapstick comedy, Noises Off is a delightful backstage farce, complete with slamming doors, falling trousers, and—of course—flying sardines!

The third show is fun for audiences of all ages—especially for elementary and middle schoolers! Indiana State University alumnus (class of 2008), Tommy Jamerson’s Charlie the-No-Good, Really-Rotten, Cheat-a-Saurus Rex is a heartwarming tale that teaches the importance of honesty and friendship. Audiences will journey back in time with Paleontologist Mark and his niece, Natalie, as they encounter Charlie the Cheat-A-Saurus, a young dinosaur who’d rather spend his days playing his RexBox than studying for his SATs (Scales and Tales Examination). But when the day of the big test arrives, an underprepared Charlie realizes he has a big decision to make: try the best he can…or cheat! Chock full of colorful characters, zany one-liners, and audience participation, audiences will have a dino-mite time!

Finally, there will be a music spectacular with famous songs from animated movies: A Magic Musical Cabaret. Once Upon A Dream you could explore A Whole New World of songs you know from movies that you love! From Heigh-ho to Let It Go, you won’t have to Wish Upon A Star to experience beloved songs of golden age House of Mouse movies to more recent hits. Bring your family and friends to this cabaret and Be Our Guest for a Family Madrigal! Chim-Chim-Cheree!

In addition to four shows, this season marks a return to Dreiser Theater, which has been under renovation since summer 2020. A fully remodeled stage, house/seating, scenic and costume shops, makeup and dressing rooms, greenroom, ticket/concessions booth, and lobby will greet patrons. The new design marries contemporary aesthetic and the mid-century history of Dreiser Hall.

Performances will run in June and July of 2023 in multiple venues on the Indiana State University campus. Dates and venues to be announced on our website in early 2023.

Auditions and tech interviews are open to the public and will be held in early January. Please visit www.crtauditions.com to see the requirements and sign up for a slot.
