TERRE HAUTE, IN – Crossroads Repertory Theatre will not be producing a theatre season during summer 2022, but it is for an exceptionally good reason: a brand-new theater building.

The renovation of Dreiser Hall at Indiana State University is nearing completion. Ongoing since 2020, this $18 million renovation will bring a new proscenium theater, stage lift, retractable seating, new scenic and costume shops, rehearsal space, a design/technology lab, classrooms, box office, and more to the building.

The Indiana State University Department of Theater/Crossroads Repertory Theatre will be moving into the new building over the months of June and July—which are the months that Crossroads Rep usually produces its season.

“We labored over the decision of whether to produce a season while concurrently moving our facilities from five buildings on campus into one,” says Director of Marketing Alicia Jay, “We want our post-pandemic return to traditional live theater to be of the superb quality our patrons have come to love and expect. For this reason, we realized we must focus on moving and setting up our shops and facilities this summer so that we can produce theater is an even higher caliber next summer.”

While Crossroads Rep is dark for the summer, there will be shows produced during the academic year in both the New Theater and the newly renovated Dreiser Theater as a part of the 2022-2023 Department of Theater Season. The first show in Dreiser will be William Shakespeare’s The Tempest, directed by Chris Berchild, which will run November 10-13, 2022.
